What's your dog’s favorite toy and/or go-to treat?

Simon’s top favorite toys are his “brains” ball and “La Push” the plushy octopus. Both of whom he will quickly abandon the moment he hears “poppy corn” popping or whippy cream in a can. But his all-time guilty pleasure is “o-cream”, otherwise known as pup cup ice cream.

What is your favorite thing about your dog?

Simon is an absolute savant. I swear he understands five languages but would get lost under the dining room table. But what I love most about him is his emotional intelligence and intuition. After my partner passed away, while on our hikes, I would occasionally have crying jags, unable to stop. Unbidden, he’d abandon all fun and distractions to sit by my side and press firmly into me until the moment passed. This sensitivity makes him the best tear-jerker movie night buddy.

Why should your dog be America’s Favorite?

Simon Tam is truly a caregiver just like his celebrity character namesake from a little known space western, Firefly. Everyone who has ever had the pleasure of befriending him will tell you, he’s not just a good boy. He is special. Like a little human in a dog body. We don’t tell him he’s a dog though. We fear he might have an existential crisis.
