Gus's favorite toy is the Kong Jumbler ball — like most dogs, Gus really loves any toy that squeaks, but he is also very quick to rip open stuffed plush toys and puncture the squeaker. The Jumbler ball is great because the entire ball itself is a squeaker and is nearly impervious to puncture, and the two-handle design makes it easy to pick up and carry for both dog and human alike.
My favorite thing about Gus is his distinctive, often human-like personality; his mannerisms, facial expressions, body language, and vocalizations make it easy to know exactly what he's thinking, and he's definitely adept at using these skills to manipulate the humans in his life.
Gus should be America's Favorite Dog because he is eager to please, and he captures the hearts of virtually everyone he comes in contact with through his array his of silly tricks (one that is particularly popular is when he sinks flat with his chin on the ground and gives a sigh or a small grunt after I say the word "Monday" in a mopey tone.) Gus also became a bit of a local celebrity after being named the official "Ambassa-Dog" for the Santa Cruz County Parks department in 2020.
