Hope is happy, smart, stubborn, and a wonderful emotional support to my husband with dementia.
Thank you for supporting Hope in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to aid PAWS in their mission to help cats, dogs, and wild animals thrive in happy, healthy homes or in their natural habitats.
What is America's Favorite Pet?
Learn MoreHope loves her flashing squeaky balls. If we don't play with her quickly enough, she begins tossing them in the air herself and has had a few run-ins with the TV and china cabinet. In her defense, sometimes she tosses them straight to us!
Her intuition. We rescued Hope from a bad situation when she was 5 months old. Though not trained as a service or emotional support dog, Hope will fly to my husband's bed when he begins hallucinating in his sleep (due to Lewy Body Dementia). She jumps on his bed, sits on his chest, and licks his face until he wakes up. She's not at all afraid of his flailing arms and legs. As I settle him down, she will grab a dog biscuit that she has stashed and proudly present him with it. An angel for sure.
Hope's not the prettiest dog on the block, but what she lacks in looks she makes up for in personality. Living with a chronic illness can lead to a dark and gloomy existence. But not with Hope around! She keeps us on our toes and keeps us laughing. Yes, she dug up those flowers, but it's a small price to pay for having a dog with a huge heart like Hope.
