Mr. Midge’s favorite toy is called Mousey, a small stuffed animal with a rich and dramatic backstory. It originally belonged to my mom’s cat (RIP) and was later promoted to Mr. Midge’s most prized possession. Clearly, Mousey has a type. Every morning, Mr. Midge and my mom follow a very strict routine: play session with a lineup of toys strategically placed along the stairs to the kitchen. Think obstacle course meets Broadway rehearsal. Skipping a toy is not an option lol!
He is the cutest caregiver to my mom during this difficult time and also the cuddliest companion imaginable. He takes his job very seriously: always nearby, always on duty, and absolutely never letting her feel alone (personal space is not part of his care plan). Whether he’s offering comfort through nonstop cuddles, quiet company, or simply being present, Mr. Midge brings warmth, routine, and a lot of love into my mom’s days. He may not understand Alzheimer’s, but he understands my mom.
Mr. Midge should win because of the constant comfort he brings to my mom with Alzheimer’s. He offers companionship without expectations, patience without judgment, and love without conditions. He is always present, providing warmth, routine, and a sense of safety on even the hardest days. In moments when words are hard to find or memories feel distant, Midge’s presence alone brings connection and peace. His kindness doesn’t come from training or understanding, but from his love & support.
