Ollie has an obsession with one toy and one toy only. He has a whole pile of things we’ve gotten him, but he incessantly asks for this things that’s like a cat wand but for dogs. So it’s a bit larger. He cries when it’s put away. He looks at it when it’s untouched. He whines and looks at you so that you go get it. And you can’t just hold it, you’ve got to run, you’ve got to go crazy. He’s very specific.
He’s a bit like a cat. He whines in a yowling way to communicate with us, and he only likes that cat stick toy of his. He’s also extremely unreactive in the face of lots of noise or wild antics. He rarely ever barks at all. Sometimes he’s so quiet you forget. So, he’ll ignore a lot of things but if you call for a group hug or group paw-paw high five, he comes running. He trots like a little horse with his tail held high, and he’s got a face that looks like a Coconut because his eyes are so huge.
A lot of people make unfunny jokes that Ollie’s like an alien or that he’s weird because of his looks or for his unusually non reactive behavior. But I think he’s just a quiet boy that is selective about where his energy goes. And someone that doesn’t hit all the marks for people immediately, but is really lovable and sweet once you spend time with him. I don’t love that so many people I know have such a biased perception of him, without knowing his heart. He’s my family and he’s a good boy.
