Penny’s all-time favorite toy is Dirt Bunny. It began as a pink bunny she proudly dragged through the dirt and was feared lost forever—until two weeks later, when Penny triumphantly carried it back inside like a treasure. Though that bunny retired, its legacy lives on in a brown replacement, still lovingly called Dirt Bunny, that never leaves her side. More than a toy, it’s her comfort and constant companion. Penny proves love doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful—just loyal.
Penny’s most unique quality is her heart. She has an incredible intuition and sense of when someone needs her most. For example, when my daughter was really sad, Penny gently put her paws on her shoulders and rested her head on her back, giving her a comforting hug. Despite being born with a heart murmur, her heart has proven to be her strongest quality, showing love, loyalty, and compassion every single day.
Penny should be America’s favorite because she’s more than a pet—she’s love in action. We chose to re-home her over a puppy, and she quickly showed she was more than we could ever ask for. She was born with a heart murmur—not a flaw, but a soft echo of resilience. It beats with a gentle rhythm, reminding us that even imperfect hearts can hold the deepest love.
